OLD Smith

My wife called her colleague's home, ''Is Old Smith home, please?''
''Speaking...'', but my wife didn't think that was her colleague's voice but much older...!?

Then she said, ''W Smith?''
''Oh, No, that is my son, he isn't in today, can I take a message?''

In Chinese culture, sometimes you call your close pal ''Old sth.'', but it doesn't necessarily mean that he/she is very old. And, quite often, this colleague is mature among his/her colleagues, but definatly not in front of his/her father.

so, old smith sometimes = young smith.
