Bookshops in Oxford

Two days ago, I mentioned we went to bookshops in Oxford city.

The biggest bookshop in the UK (in my mind) would be Blackwell bookshop. You may also find blackwell company and blackwell publishing's website useful, since they supply so many books to the Education unvisities including Oxford university.

The blackwell bookshop on broad stree oxford, is such a big one when you step into. You might also be amazed to see the prices of those rare books on the third floor?(maybe)

I was told that their services are first class as well. Whatever book you want to buy, (maybe we should say published in the UK), they will try to seek for you if they haven't got it in the store and sell it to you by the price they purchased it, from wherever it possibly is in all over the world.

The second biggest one (maybe) is Wasterstone's? Then comes Borders?

There is also the Oxford university bookshop on high street.

How big is the one(discount bookstore) I have been working in? I haven't really got a clue. But there are quite some art book and art stuff and children's book as well as discounted novel and reference books. This shop called, the works.

By the way, if you need some help over information on oxford, this dailyinfo website might be a great help.

Movie Week

This easter holiday weekend for me is a movie weekend.

We went to blockbuster and rented a couple of movies. As I mentioned earlier, the most moving one to me was the canlendar girls.

Bridget Jones' Diary would be counted as a story happening around us but something that we would expect for the end of the story with lots laughable plots.

Ocean eleven is a simple story with still attractive stars, attractive plots and exciting story itself to make a very much watchable one.

Don't you see that most of the films, if not all, are saying good people will get a happy end?Be nice to others and learn to be a help is the learnt motto.

Hitch

Our good friends Roger and Vee came to visit today in Oxford.

After lunch in a French restaurant, We went to city center rather than original plan, visiting Blenham Palace, since we all know Roger loves books so much. And, he said, how can you imagine that we came to Oxford without going to a bookshop?

After all these, we went to see a movie hitch, acted by Will Smith, a sweet image of lots of girls.

Pun, (I was taught this word by Roger during lunch.) in chinese, we call it, double meaning words or double meaning usage of the word. Hitch is a pun in the film, and the lady actress said to will smith, ''give me a ring sometimes'', that is a pun by the director, isn't it? then she changed to "I mean a call". (just in case he misunderstood it as a pun)

And, all of us like the saying of Alex Hitchens'...
May you never lie, steal, cheat or drink.
But if you must lie, lie in each other's arms.
If you must steal, steal a kiss. If you must cheat, cheat death.
And if you must drink, drink with your friends.

The day was finished in an Italian restaurant, we talked a lot about punctuations in English and other languages, including Chinese.

It has been a very nice day. Like Confucius said, when there are good friends come to visit, isn't that a happiness?

Calendar Girls

I watched the first part of the film and I was moved to have my eyes wet last night.

From the point of view of the movie itself, it is quite creative. The producer heard the story of the Diary, then found the people in an England village and made the movie. It seems as simple as that, they just did what the hollywood normally do anyway. But Hollywood is just too good at this in making films, from any simple stories around us or any plots, to make a moving and a surprising film.

The big part that attracted me was the Calendar story itself. These middle aged ladies did something incrediable ''abnormal'' in the eyes of country village people in England. They did this strange thing for memorizing the decent gentleman who has just passed away and has appreciated the women as flowers in his life, beautiful in all its stages.

I don't know when the calendar started to be used in human's history. But I believe it is a creation. Then it is also very innovative to have the naked girls on the calendar as a business. Acted as an Entrepreneur.

Chris happened be an entrepreneur as well, though she may not wish(nor realised) to do so at the first stage. Or, at least, she didn't think it in this way. But wasn't it she, who has thought about changing the nude young ladies to middle aged ladies on the calendar as a business? And, the fact told us, they succeed, tremendously.

According to the defination, innovative means doing things differently by applying tech to business. But, it is earsier to have it said than done.

Difference can make the world more beautiful, in many ways.

Entrepreneurs, need to be innovative!
